Welcome. I’m kailyn.

I’m a birth, BereavemenT, and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and placenta encapsulation specialist.

Mama Moonlight Birth Services is proud to serve areas of DFW, including Lewisville, The Colony, Plano, Frisco, Denton, Prosper, Allen, Grapevine, Irving, Arlington, Richardson, and other areas surrounding Dallas.

What is a doula?

By definition, a doula is “a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.” AKA your birth bestie. As a birth doula, I would be there as a calm reassuring presence during your labor. During that time I would also offer knowledge to help you cope with pain and help keep labor progressing through various techniques. As a postpartum doula, I would be there to help the transition into new parenthood be easier for everyone involved, mother, baby, father, or siblings.

“Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone’s hand is the beginning of the journey.” -Vera Nazarian

why hire a doula?

Let me start by saying that there are many different types of doulas. According to the World Health Organization, doula’s significantly reduce the chance of medical intervention. That means less chance for pain medication (If you so choose) and more chance for a vaginal birth (If you so choose). The key is that I will be there to help support and inform you of your options to give birth in a way that is optimal and pleasant for you. For the postpartum period, I will be there to act as a support system for your family, and help with the things that may be unfamiliar to you. I’ll be there as a nonjudgmental partner to help navigate new parenthood.

Who can benefit from a doula?

  • If you are striving for an unmedicated experience having a doula can be an integral part of achieving that goal. We provide:

    • Physical support for pain management

    • Assistance with positions for laboring and pushing

    • Knowledge to help you make informed choices and advocate for your decisions

    • Emotional support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum

  • If you are having a scheduled or unplanned c-section, a doula can still be a great asset to your birth team. We can:

    • Offer knowledge to help you have more options for your cesarean.

    • Assist with the immediate postpartum hours since getting around may be tough.

    • Take pictures of you (and your partner).

    • Help advocate for you during the process.

  • Many people want to labor at home and head to the hospital hours after labor has begun. If this is the case, we can labor together and once we get to the hospital. We can:

    • Assist with positions that will help progress labor that are safe to do with your epidural

    • Offer knowledge to ensure your birth plan is still being followed.

    • Help advocate for you while having an epidural

  • In the event that you are lacking a support system and would like to have a person who is always in your corner, I will be that for you.

If you do have a support system that may only include 1 person, I can help integrate them to ensure they are an equal part of the experience.

  • I understand the fear of feeling heard as a black woman during childbirth. My hope is to be there as an advocate and walking birth library to help keep you comfortable and feeling heard.

FAQs

Do you offer additional services?

Yes! I am a full spectrum doula which means I am certified in birth, postpartum, and bereavement. I am also a certified childbirth educator and placenta encapsulation specialist.

Where do you travel?

I am located in Lewisville, but I travel up to an hour outside of that area for births and 45 minutes for postpartum.

Will you advocate for me?

Oftentimes during labor it’s hard to make decisions in the moment and I don’t expect people to always know when they need advocacy. In that case I’ll speak up to help keep you informed and protected. My method for advocating is helping facilitate conversations between you and your birthing staff. I never make decisions for you, but instead, provide information that makes it easier to advocate for yourself. I like to do a mixture of advocating and allowing you to advocate for yourself.

Do you offer payment plans?

I work with families and unique budgets. I require a nonrefundable retainer of $500 but after it is paid and you would like to pay every two weeks, monthly, or on another schedule until you have paid the balance, that works perfectly fine. Reach out and we can talk about it! Final payment is due at 37 weeks.

how do you support families as a postpartum doula?

My philosophy is to help do whatever makes your lives easier (within reason). This could be cooking, organizing a nursery, running small errands, grocery shopping, light cleaning, or even holding your baby while you sleep.

how Long do you stay with families as a postPartum doula?

My hope is to help your family establish a good system within the first 12 weeks but I will stay with families up to 6 months depending on my availability.

Are you certified?

Yes. I am certified through Madriella Doula Network in 2020 and Stillbirthday in 2022. I am also trained in placenta encapsulation through It Takes a Village Birth Services and Traditional Belly Binding through Royal Doula Academy. I am also Adult and Infant CPR/First Aid trained.
